Why write books?

There's one simple reason: shelf life.

  • A LinkedIn post typically lasts only a day.

  • A Medium article, at most, lingers for a week.

  • Newsletters have a shelf life of a fortnight, sometimes even less.

  • But a book can endure for years, sometimes decades, or even centuries.

It struck me that all the online writing we produce would eventually vanish into thin air unless we take steps to preserve it in book form–ebook or physical.

That’s disturbing because the most enduring legacy we leave behind is the stories we've accumulated throughout our lives.

My aspiration is to help you preserve these narratives in the form of books.

The story behind this publication…

One day, as I was engaged in a bit of spring cleaning, my gaze fell upon the ever-growing stack of notebooks. These were the notebooks where I hastily jotted down ideas that struck me or moments of sudden clarity.

Initially, my inclination was to toss them all into the trash. However, as I began to flip through their pages, I realized they held a treasure trove of valuable insights. Discarding them didn't seem right.

It was at that moment the idea of transforming these scribbles into a book struck me. I made the decision to capture these seemingly random thoughts, and arrange them like the days on a calendar, giving birth to the title, '365 Notes.'

The lessons you've acquired, the insights you've gained, the places you've explored, and the individuals you've encountered – all of these deserve to be immortalized within the pages of books. Your books.

And since self-publishing is so easy and almost cost-free, there is no reason why you shouldn’t do that.

About Me

For those of you who want to know more about me, here are a few highlights:

  • I live in Canberra, which is the capital of Australia, in case you think it is Sydney.

  • I have two half PhDs, which unfortunately doesn't add up to be one full Ph.D. So, you can't add Dr. in front of my name.

  • I have inhabited the planet Earth for six decades, and in that time I have seen it (the Earth) age faster than me.

  • I became a writer because my boss told me my English sucked. I killed myself writing 4 books (so far) and 500 articles just to prove him wrong.

  • I wrote and published my first book in one week and gave it a really imaginative title - "How To Write And Publish An eBook In One Week."

  • This decade, I am going to write and publish 100 books. I have already published 5. Only 95 to go.

  • I have an alter ego, called Ms. Jolly. She is much smarter, cleverer, and whimsical than me. Whenever I am not writing, I am illustrating her adventures.

  • I have someone else living in my head who pops out now and then, to rebuke me. I call him Jack. One day I am going to write a book about him. He is not very happy about it.

That’s it from me at the moment.

See you on Friday.
