The 90-Day Write-Grow-Monetize System (Start Here)
One focus per week. One small step per day.
I didn’t start writing to build a business. I started because I couldn’t not write.
In my corporate life, a well-meaning boss once told me, “Neera, the only thing standing between you and senior management is your written English.”
Dear reader, I did not cry.
I took it as a challenge and joined a life-writing group. I started scribbling little stories from my life. Not corporate reports. Not whitepapers. Stories.
Eventually, I won that senior management position, but by then, the writing bug had bitten me hard. At 57, I took early retirement and made writing my full-time job.
I started blogging. Built an audience on Medium. Wrote my first book just before turning 60. Now I’ve written eight, with a goal of writing 98 more.
I built a business, not by selling... but by sharing.
That’s the heart of the system I am about to share with you.
Have you flirted with blogging, danced with social media, maybe even whispered sweet nothings to your newsletter audience… but nothing’s quite clicked.
But you still want to turn your idea into a business.
Welcome. You’re in the right place.
This is where we stop throwing content spaghetti at the wall and start building something that lasts. Something that feels good in your soul.
I had to give it a name, and I’m calling it the 90-Day Write-Grow-Monetize System.
And yes, it’s actually doable in 90 days, provided you stop rearranging your desktop folders and commit to the work. (No shame. I’ve done it too.)
Who is this for?
It’s for the knowledge-rich-strategy-poor people like us.
Writers, coaches, consultants, creators, therapists, designers, martial art trainers, dog whisperers, anyone who knows a thing or two and wants to turn that thing into income, impact, and ideally, independence.
I designed this for people like me. And maybe like you:
You’ve got wisdom to share but zero desire to sound like a sleazy internet marketer.
You want to build a body of work, not just a pile of posts.
You want clients, readers, or customers to find you and say, “Finally. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
If that’s you, take a deep breath.
We’re about to get to work.
The system in a nutshell
The Write-Grow-Monetize Plan is exactly what it sounds like:
Write to clarify your ideas and package your knowledge.
Grow your visibility and build real trust with a real audience.
Monetize what you know in a way that feels human, not salesy or sleazy.
Think of it like nurturing your knowledge into income.
The 4-Year Plateau (and the 6-Month Surge)
Let me confess something: I have been on Substack for four and a half years without really growing.
And honestly? I wasn’t too fussed.
I was there to write. To flex my creative muscle. To publish what I wanted, when I wanted, without worrying about algorithms or engagement or “niching down.” (The mere phrase used to make me break out in hives.)
And it worked. Sort of.
My writing improved. My voice got stronger. I built a small, loyal following.
But my subscriber count? Stagnant.
Like-for-like. Month after month.
Sometimes I’d gain 3 subscribers and lose 2. A net gain of…zero.
Then, sometime around New Year’s, I looked at my list and thought,
“This is lovely, but it’s not a business. It’s a hobby.”
So I made a decision: I was going to grow.
Intentionally. Strategically. Without selling my soul (or joining a comment-for-comment cult).
And wouldn’t you know it… once I focused on growth, growth actually happened.
In just 5 months, I landed at #13 on the Substack Education Leaderboard.
One of my Notes went viral, pulling in 150+ subscribers in a few days.
In May alone, I gained 321 subscribers.
Was it luck?
Partly. Timing always plays a role.
But mostly, it was the focused work I did in the first 90 days of the year, refining my message, showing up consistently, making small smart tweaks.
That 90-day stretch changed everything.
It became the blueprint for the Write-Grow-Monetize system I now teach.
Because here’s the thing:
Your business won’t grow just because your writing gets better.
It grows when you decide, truly decide, to make it grow.
Do you agree?
The 3-piece puzzle every online business needs
As I looked back at what finally worked for me, I realised something obvious—but overlooked by so many (my past self included):
There are only three core elements to an online business:
Writing – because it’s how you communicate, teach, persuade, and connect.
Audience Growth – because shouting into the void, no matter how poetic, won’t pay the bills.
Monetisation – because without income, this stays a lovely passion project.
And here’s the biggest truth I found:
If even one of these is missing, your online business stalls.
For years, I focused solely on the writing.
I was proud of it. I was improving. But the results? Limited.
No growth. No income. Just me and a blinking cursor having deep, meaningful conversations.
So I decided to change that.
I built a system where I could work on all three, writing, growing audience, and monetising, without overwhelm, burnout, or needing to spend 6 hours a day on Substack (tempting, I know).
The method? One focus per week. One small step per day.
Fifteen minutes a day on a single task, writing better, building smarter, selling simpler.
Then stacking that progress like bricks in a house.
Week by week, these tiny actions compound.
Writing becomes easier.
Readers start showing up.
Income trickles in, and then flows.
That’s what the 90-Day Write-Grow-Monetize System is all about.
Not a sprint. Not a hustle-fest.
Just a smart, steady system designed for real humans with real lives, limited time, and mildly chaotic schedules (hello, it’s me).
Now let’s get into how it actually works.
But before that, let me explain…
Why we’ll go slow on purpose?
If you’ve ever signed up for a course, binge-watched all the videos, and then... done absolutely nothing, you’re not alone.
That’s why I drip this plan out slowly, over time, through the Author Circle newsletter.
Each week, you’ll get one clear, focused lesson.
No overwhelm. No jargon. No “just hustle harder” nonsense.
If you’re ready to stop lurking and start leading, this is your first step.
It’s a gentle nudge, not a shove off a cliff.
Want in?
Become a paid subscriber to Author Circle. That’s it.
The whole 90-Day Plan rolls out inside the newsletter. Free articles, deep dives, the occasional rant, and even some behind-the-scenes coaching.
No upsells, no secret club. Just real work for real people who want to build something that matters.
Let’s build the next chapter of your business and your life.
Together.
Let’s break it down: the 90-day roadmap
We’re not rushing.
We’re building.
So each week has a theme:
WRITE – Turn your knowledge into content
You don’t need to wait for “clarity.”
Writing is clarity.
In the first 4 weeks, you’ll:
Choose your signature idea, the one you’ll be known for (The first step to building a profitable creator business)
Validate your signature offer, before you slave away
Give your profile a glow up (update your bio and newsletter description)
Rewrite your About page (so it sounds like you but is about the readers)
Draft your welcome emails (make a great first impression)
Get answers to Twelve newsletter questions I’m asked all the time
Build your website on Substack (why it’s a smart idea—and how to do it)
Bring your personality into your writing without losing clarity, flow, or reader respect.
Write posts that foster trust (not just engagement)
… you get the idea.
Writing is your practice ground. Your testing lab. Your lighthouse.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.
GROW – Build trust, not just traffic
You don’t need more followers. You need deeper relationships.
You don’t just hope people will join, you build intentionally.
A community, not just an audience
An email list that you grow one person at a time
A value-based welcome sequence (but that speak like personal letters)
Lead magnet that delivers
Content strategy that invites interaction
A rhythm of showing up that people can count on
Because likes and views don’t pay the bills. Relationships do.
We want people to read your stuff and think, “Where has this been all my life?”
And maybe, just maybe, reply to your emails. That’s when the magic begins.
Here is what you will learn in the GROWTH phase:

MONETIZE – Offer value, earn income
This is where it gets juicy.
By now, you’re showing up consistently. You’ve got a content habit.
People are opening your emails, forwarding your posts, even quoting you (don’t worry, it’s flattering the first ten times).
Now it’s time to help them take the next step—and pay you for it.
In Month 3, you’ll learn:
How to Monetise Your Knowledge without feeling like a sleazy salesperson
If you’re a little squeamish about selling, don’t worry. I was too.
What happens at the end of 90 days?
Magic. Or at least, momentum.
You’ll have:
A growing audience who trusts you
A writing habit you can stick to
A digital home (your newsletter or blog)
A signature offer you're proud of
Confidence to sell it without turning into a robot
A content system you can rinse and repeat
And most importantly? You’ll know that you’re not alone.
You’ll be part of a community of people doing the same brave, meaningful work.
(We even talk in the comments and cheer each other on. No toxic hustle culture here.)
That’s all from me today.
Next Wednesday, we kick off with your first weekly action plan.

Wow! You’ve got me fired up, but scared too. I’m juggling several projects in multiple places that are requiring me to make some hard decisions. Which will get my focus, and which will have to wait? Oh, and then there’s learning to navigate new platforms. I’m glad hand-holding is involved.
Well done - that surely took a bit to prepare. Happy for your growth!
