I also battle the inner critic. For years, I allowed it to stop me writing, over and over again. Now, I have it somewhat under control although every now and again it sneaks out and cripples me again. I've got a list of tricks stuck to my wall that sometimes help me beat it, for me the challenge is noticing when it has taken over. Sometimes it takes a while for me to realise I'm in that mindset. Once I've noticed, I'm better able to deal with it.

I too have found that my inner critic is always lurking around looking for opportunity to butt-in and ruin my efforts. But knowing that Inner Critic is a separate entity than us and being aware of his tactics helps me keep him in check. (By the way my Inner Critic is a male. I know that for sure.)

Interesting. Now I think about it, mine is definitely female.

Neera, I'm fighting with my inner critic too. of late, I've decided to just write and connect with my audience and get better at expressing myself, and then later critic my grammar...my writing voice. Right now I want to organize my time and build momentum, which takes a lot of persistence as you know. Just seeing little steps of progress fuels my ambition. Would you please send me a link to your website? Thank you

Good plan Carol. If I am to give advice to my earlyself it would be to develop the habit of writing everyday. Forget everything else and write everyday. If you want to better in a hurry, the second habit to develop is to publish everyday. When you write stuff that other people are going to read you get better faster than with any other technique.
