This is such great advice! I'm editing an emotional, sweet memoir story right now, and you just helped me realize I need to rewrite the first line. I didn't start with emotion. I'm trying to be really real in this story, so I also need to remember not to edit too much until it sounds like a college essay!

My nursing career taught me a great lesson about people. Patients don’t remember your name.

Patients don’t remember what you did for them.

Patients remember how you made them feel.

I want to apply that principle to my writing so that people remember me for making them feel better about life, the ups and downs they endured, and the lessons they discovered.
