Todd Brison, a prominent Medium writer, once told the story behind his book The Creative’s Curse. After years of writing on Medium, one of his stories went viral. For a short time, he enjoyed fame. His article had thousands of views, was widely shared, and received hundreds of comments. Then it all died as quickly as it arose. And once again, he went back to obscurity.
First of all, your cartoon was soooo expressive that it compelled me to read the article, even if I am late and should be already out! Second: I struggled for years making music with a good jack and a bad jack dialoguing and fighting in my head, sometimes I shouted at them to stop and let me play, but they took the stage again. The bad one was straight, telling me what was rubbish, but the “good” one was actually worse, he was mean: as he was complimenting me just to tell me: you won’t think you can do it again, uh? You cannot get along so good, you’ll soon make a mistake… So, I’d love to read your dialogues with jack, especially now that you made such a good cartoon portrait of him!
Oh, Daniela, you have Jack too! It is comforting to know I am not the only one. I think I have only one Jack, and he is sometimes kind but mostly mean to me. Thanks for taking the time to write to me because you have now energized me not to be afraid of my Jack but invite him to have a one-on-one chat. Thank you! I will definitely write my conversations with Jack now. I need a good title as well.
Writing such a story makes for a good read to me. I too have that jack on the box critic too. Sometimes he’s right but you don’t have to listen all the time . Just block out it’s voice and do your thing. The problem is, we tend to feel everything should be perfect but it’s with mistakes we learn our most valuable lessons that makes us get better as a person and what we do .
Hi Donnette, The first thing I did this morning was to check my phone to see your response. I knew you would respond. So thank you for the encouragement. You too have Jack in box critic. Maybe they are all made in the same factory. Thanks for motivating me to write the story.
Absolutely. Frankly though Neera I don’t think you need my motivation . It’s in you. You’re one of the most purposeful people I have known in my entire life. I need you to motivate me . Lol..
