Position Yourself as an Authority in Your Niche with This One Hack
Stop being another struggling creator when you can easily stand out.
If you want to establish yourself as an expert in your industry, there’s one powerful tool that will set you apart.
But before I tell you what it is, let me share how I discovered it.
My Story
Back in 2019, I quit my job to become a full-time writer.
I created a website and started writing blog posts.
But for months, no one read what I was publishing.
About 18 months later, in mid 2020, I discovered Medium.com and started writing there.
Over the next 12 months, I built a small reader base, but my writing career wasn’t taking off. By that time, I had written more than 300 articles.
Then, one day, I woke up with a voice in my head telling me, "Write a book. And write it fast."
I acted on it. I wrote and published my first book in just one week.
Everything changed after that.
My confidence soared.
People started seeing me with reverence.
I became an author. I was now an authority on a topic.
Since then, I have written and published six more books.
So, if you want to establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry, there’s one powerful tool that will set you apart: write a book.
A book is more than just a collection of pages. It’s a statement of
expertise
a credibility booster
a gateway to new opportunities.
Whether you’re a coach, consultant, entrepreneur, or creative professional, a well-written book instantly elevates your authority and positions you as an expert in your field.
Why a Book Builds Authority Faster Than Any Other Strategy
There are countless ways to build authority—blogging, podcasting, speaking engagements, and social media—but none offer the instant credibility of a published book. Here’s why:
Perceived Authority – When you’ve written a book on a topic, people naturally assume you are an expert. Readers, potential clients, and media outlets trust authors more than someone who simply shares opinions on social media.
Increased Visibility – Books have a longer lifespan than social media posts. A well-written book can open doors to speaking engagements, guest articles, interviews, and collaborations that further solidify your status.
Business Growth – A book acts as a lead magnet. Readers who resonate with your message may hire you, join your programs, or buy additional services.
Content Longevity – Blog posts fade, but books endure. Once published, your book will continue working for you, attracting readers and establishing your credibility for years to come.
Write a Book That Solve a Big Problem
Not all books will position you as a thought leader.
The key is to write a book that solves a major problem in your industry.
People don’t just want information—they want transformation.
Your book should serve as a roadmap, guiding readers from where they are to where they want to be.
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Identify the Core Problem You Solve
Your book should address a pressing issue that your target audience struggles with. Ask yourself:
What is the biggest challenge my audience faces?
What questions do they ask repeatedly?
What myths or misconceptions do I want to debunk?
For example, if you're a business coach, your book could tackle “How to Build a Profitable Business Without Burnout.”
If you’re a health expert, it could be “The Simple Path to Losing 20 Pounds Without Dieting.”
My first book was “How to Write and Publish an eBook in One Week.” One of the biggest myths about writing is that books take years to complete and even longer to get published.
I challenged that belief by writing and self-publishing my book in just one week.
To make the process even more transparent, I included a daily diary detailing my progress—the number of words I wrote, the research I conducted, and the struggles I faced while balancing other commitments.
That book not only provided my readers with a clear framework for writing their own books, but it also became the foundation for how I approached writing my future books.
Step 2: Create a Clear Framework
The best thought leadership books aren’t just a collection of ideas; they present a structured solution.
Develop a step-by-step framework or methodology that helps your readers achieve their goals.
For example:
Step 1: Identify the root cause of their problem
Step 2: Implement a proven system to address the issue
Step 3: Overcome challenges along the way
Step 4: Achieve long-term success with ongoing strategies
Having a unique framework makes your book memorable and easier to reference. Readers will associate your method with you, reinforcing your expertise.
Step 3: Share Personal Stories & Case Studies
People trust experts who have walked the path themselves.
Share your journey, struggles, and breakthroughs.
Case studies and client success stories further reinforce the credibility of your message.
For example:
If you’re a marketing consultant, share how you helped a struggling business owner double their revenue with your system.
If you’re a fitness coach, share how a client lost weight by applying your approach.
Real-life examples make your book relatable and prove that your methods work.
Step 4: Make It Actionable
Many books offer insights but lack actionable steps. To stand out, include exercises, worksheets, and practical takeaways at the end of each chapter. This keeps readers engaged and ensures they apply what they learn.
For example:
Provide a checklist for each phase of your process.
Include reflection questions to help readers personalize their journey.
Offer a free companion workbook (available via email sign-up) to grow your audience.
Step 5: Leverage Your Book for Thought Leadership
Once your book is published, it’s time to use it as a thought leadership tool. Here’s how:
Use It as a Business Card – Instead of a traditional business card, hand your book to potential clients. This leaves a lasting impression and instantly elevates your authority.
Offer It as a Lead Magnet – Give away a free chapter in exchange for email sign-ups. This helps you build an audience of engaged followers.
Turn Your Book into Content – Repurpose chapters into blog posts, LinkedIn articles, or short-form content for social media. This expands your reach and reinforces your expertise.
Speak at Events & Podcasts – Having a book makes you a desirable guest for conferences, webinars, and podcasts. Reach out to event organizers and podcast hosts to share insights from your book.
Leverage Media Opportunities – Journalists and bloggers are more likely to feature you if you’ve written a book on a trending topic. Pitch yourself to media outlets with key insights from your book.
Writing a book is the most powerful hack to become an authority in your niche.
It showcases your expertise, attracts new opportunities, and gives you an evergreen asset that builds credibility for years to come.

That’s all from me today.
As always, thanks for reading.
I set up a challenge for myself, so I knew I had to do it. I was reporting my daily progress on Medium.com, so I couldn’t fail my readers. It wasn’t easy though. I choose the title before I wrote the book. I asked my LinkedIn audience what book they wanted me to write. I gave them 4 titles and this is the one they chose. If you read the book, I explain it all there.
And it doesn’t have to be a long book.
