I was born into an era where hard work was considered the pathway to success.
I had witnessed the relentless toil of my parents and those around me and internalized the belief that hard work was the sole route to success. I never even contemplated an alternative approach as there seemed to be none.
So, throughout my life, I adhered to this ingrained mindset—work hard, do more, be the epitome of diligence, and recognition will follow.
As retirement approached and instead of hanging up my boots, I took on even more. I ventured into writing books and establishing a ghostwriting business. Enrolling in courses, joining cohorts, and investing copious amounts of time, effort, and energy, I dedicated myself wholeheartedly to these pursuits.
Despite my relentless efforts, I wasn’t getting anywhere.
As I resolved to scale my ghostwriting business, I received a plethora of instructions from industry gurus. They advocated for extensive social media networking, crafting lists of ideal clients, and inundating them with proposals, all while generously dispensing free value. I dutifully adhered to these directives, often at the expense of my health and family.
Until I couldn't any longer.
Exhausted by the ceaseless demands of these strategies, I got disillusioned. My passion for writing and building my business began to wane, replaced by a sense of dread.
That's when it dawned on me—I was ensnared in what's known as the 80/20 TRAP.
